History

Oracle hired Mark Barrenechea in 1997 to build a CRM development team.{{Cite book|last=Symonds|first=Matthew|url=https://www.worldcat.org/oclc/52638805|title=Softwar : an intimate portrait of Larry Ellison and Oracle|date=2003|publisher=Simon & Schuster|isbn=0-7432-2504-X|location=New York|oclc=52638805}} That development team evolved into the CRM division of Oracle in 1998, the first year that Oracle CRM was released.{{Cite web|title=What is Oracle Customer Experience Cloud (Oracle CX Cloud)?|url=https://searchcustomerexperience.techtarget.com/definition/Oracle-Customer-Experience-Cloud-Oracle-CX-Cloud|access-date=2021-09-01|website=SearchCustomerExperience|language=en}} Later, Barrenechea was responsible for the CRM half of Oracle's E-Business Suite (EBS) when he helped to bridge the separation between CRM and ERP by creating a single database that covered marketing, sales, order management, and accounting. This allowed Oracle to automate the entire CRM business flow, from lead to billing.

In 2021, Oracle combined its CX products with those from Oracle Data Cloud and renamed them Oracle Advertising and Customer Experience (CX).{{Cite web|title=Third-party cookie cull: Ready for the cliff-face?|url=https://www.thedrum.com/news/2021/05/20/third-party-cookie-cull-ready-the-cliff-face|access-date=2021-09-22|website=The Drum}}{{Cite web|last=Evans|first=Bob|date=2021-02-16|title=The Disruptive Larry Ellison: Shatters Tradition to Reflect New Cloud Realities|url=https://cloudwars.co/oracle/oracle-larry-ellison-shatter-tradition-advertising-and-cx/|access-date=2021-09-22|language=en-US}} Oracle Advertising and Customer Experience (CX) is the name of Oracle's CRM system in the cloud.
