Career

Ballantyne became the first Vincentian to win a gold medal at the CARIFTA Games when competing in the shot put at the 1981 CARIFTA Games held in Nassau, the Bahamas.{{cite web|title=30 years of sporting achievements|url=http://searchlight.vc/thirty-years-of-sporting-achievements-p24027.htm|website=searchlight.vc|accessdate=18 December 2016}}

Six years later Ballantyne competed at the first ever IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics held in Indianapolis, United States, he entered the 60 metres and finished fourth in his heat in a time off 7.05 seconds which was a new national record,{{cite web|title=Official 60m heat results|url=https://www.iaaf.org/results/iaaf-world-indoor-championships/1987/1st-iaaf-world-indoor-championships-13/men/60-metres/heats/result#resultheader|website=iaaf.org|accessdate=18 December 2016}} but still wasn't fast enough to qualify for the next round, he also entered the long jump but didn't make any legitimate jumps so didn't receive an official ranking.{{cite web|title=Official Long Jump Results|url=https://www.iaaf.org/results/iaaf-world-indoor-championships/1987/1st-iaaf-world-indoor-championships-13/men/long-jump/final/series#resultheader|website=iaaf.org|accessdate=18 December 2016}}

Ballantyne was also part of the first ever Saint Vincent and the Grenadines team to compete at the Summer Olympics in 1988 when they went to Seoul, South Korea, he entered the long jump, but again he failed to register a distance from his three jumps so he didn't advance any further.{{cite web|title=Orde Ballantyne|url=https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/ba/orde-ballantyne-1.html|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200418074526/https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/ba/orde-ballantyne-1.html|url-status=dead|archive-date=18 April 2020|website=sports-reference.com|accessdate=18 December 2016}}
