Ordway is a statutory town in and the county seat of Crowley County, Colorado, United States, that is also the most populous community in the county. The population was 1,066 at the 2020 census.

History

A post office called Ordway has been in operation since 1890.{{cite web | url=http://www.postalhistory.com/postoffices.asp?state=CO | title=Post offices | publisher=Jim Forte Postal History | accessdate=July 6, 2016}} The community was named after George N. Geography

Ordway is located in south-central Crowley County at {{coord|38|13|11|N|103|45|26|W|type:city}} (38.219633, -103.757264).{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov/geographies/reference-files/time-series/geo/gazetteer-files.html|publisher=United States Census Bureau|accessdate=April 23, 2011|date=February 12, 2011|title=US Gazetteer files: 2010, 2000, and 1990}} State Highway 96 runs along the southern edge of the town, leading west {{convert|49|mi}} to Pueblo and east {{convert|60|mi}} to Eads. Highway 71 runs along the eastern edge of the town and leads south {{convert|11|mi}} to U.S. Route 50 near Rocky Ford and north {{convert|75|mi}} to Interstate 70 at Limon.

According to the United States Census Bureau, Ordway has a total area of {{convert|0.8|sqmi|km2}}, all of it land.

Climate

According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Ordway has a cold semi-arid climate, abbreviated "BSk" on climate maps. The hottest temperature recorded in Ordway was {{convert|111|F|C|1}} on July 14, 2003 and July 20, 2005, while the coldest temperature recorded was {{convert|-29|F|C|1}} on February 15, 2021.
