Overview

The power station is a planned joint project by the government of Uganda and the Chinese Guangzhou Dongsong Energy Group. The station would be part of a US$620 million development known as the Osukuru Industrial Complex. The plant primarily would use excess heat generated during the chemical processes in the manufacturing complex to heat either steam or compressed air, which would turn the turbines and generate the electricity.{{cite web | accessdate=21 April 2016 | date=5 February 2016 | url=http://www.newvision.co.ug/new_vision/news/1416350/sukulu-phosphates-signs-usd240m-funding | title=Sukulu phosphates signs $240 million funding | last=Mugabe | first=David | newspaper=New Vision | location=Kampala}} Construction of the industrial complex commenced in October 2015.{{cite web | accessdate=21 April 2016 | date=16 October 2015 | location=Kampala | url=http://www.newvision.co.ug/new_vision/news/1410572/construction-uganda-sukulu-phosphate-factory-kicks | title=Construction of Uganda Sukulu phosphate factory kicks off | first=Faustine | last=Odeke | newspaper=New Vision}}
