OvO is an Italian noise rock duo formed by Stefania Pedretti and Bruno Dorella in 2000 in Ravenna, Italy. The two initially planned for the band to be totally improvisation-based with an open lineup. After encouragement from members of their local music scene to become a band and tour, they decided to do so in order to play with Cock ESP, an extreme noise band from Minneapolis.{{cite news|last1=Wilcox|first1=Kate|title=OvO: In-depth Interview|url=http://www.metalassault.com/Interviews/041611_OvO.php|accessdate=29 March 2017|agency=Metal Assault}} Since, the pair have released eight full-length albums on a variety of international record labels including Load Records, Dio Drone, Bar La Muerte, and Supernatural Cat, among others.{{cite web|title=LOAD Records >> OvO|url=http://loadrecords.com/bands/ovo/|website=LOAD Records|accessdate=29 March 2017}} The origin of the band's name, OvO, stems from using a piece of the Italian word "nuovo", or new, which creates a palindrome.{{cite news|last1=Stephens|first1=Fiona|title=OvO Interview|url=http://www.musicology.uk.com/ovo-interview/|accessdate=10 April 2017|agency=Musicology|date=10 January 2017}}

Decibel Magazine summarizes OvO's 2016 album, Creatura, as "making rhythmic, layered, sludgy noise" and a "David Lynch dance party".{{cite journal|title=OvO Creatura 12 Inch|journal=Decibel Magazine|date=January 2017|issue=147|url=https://store.decibelmagazine.com/products/january-2017-147}} The duo has toured extensively across the world, playing over 1000 shows in varied locations including Europe, Asia, North America, and Mexico.

Musical style

Counting Swans and Diamanda Galás as their biggest influences, Pedretti and Dorella are known for primitive industrial sounds and Pedretti's theatrically dark vocals.{{cite news|last1=Anderl|first1=Timothy|title=Of Iron and Steel; an Interview with Bruno Dorella of OvO|url=http://ghettoblastermagazine.com/2017/iron-steel-interview-bruno-dorella-ovo/|accessdate=10 April 2017|agency=GhettoBlaster Magazine|date=16 January 2017}}{{cite web|last1=Reynolds|first1=Curran|title=OvO|url=http://curranreynolds.blogspot.com/search/label/OvO|website=The Chain|accessdate=25 March 2017}} The band is set up in minimalist fashion, with only two members, one of whom plays a half drum kit. Stereogum's Doug Moore described the band's sound as, "music – rhythmic noise, really – that simmers with a flat-affect malice, owing equal debts to extreme metal, noise rock, industrial music, and dark electronica, "{{cite web|last1=Moore|first1=Doug|title=OvO – "Zombie Stomp"|url=http://www.stereogum.com/1910191/ovo-zombie-stomp/premiere/|website=Stereogum|accessdate=25 March 2017}} while Christian Eede of The Quietus recalled their music as being "punctuated by slamming, swampy drums, squalls of feedback and punchy guitar riffs, as well as Stefania Pedretti's no-holds-barred vocal."{{cite news|last1=Eede|first1=Christian|title=Listen: New OvO Single|url=http://thequietus.com/articles/21338-listen-new-ovo-single|accessdate=28 March 2017|agency=The Quietus|date=16 November 2016}} OvO has also been compared to Joe Preston's solo project, Thrones, for its "equally ambitious exploration of heaviness beyond metal's sundry genres".{{cite news|last1=Lange|first1=Shane|title=OvO: Abisso Review + Footage|url=http://www.cvltnation.com/ovo-abisso-album-review/|accessdate=29 March 2017|publisher=Cvlt Nation|date=5 December 2013}} Throughout their seventeen years (and counting) of touring, the band has played with an eclectic array of artists including Thurston Moore, A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Zu, Bastard Noise, Jim O'Rourke, The Murder Junkies, Lightning Bolt, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Estradasphere, Ludicra, and KK Null.{{cite web|title=Supernatural Cat_OvO|url=http://www.supernaturalcat.com/pages/OvO.html|website=Supernatural Cat|accessdate=28 March 2017}}

Gear used is varied, including Stefania's utilization of Death By Audio distortion pedals and Digitech Digital Reverb, while Bruno noted the recent purchase of a Roland SPD-S drum pad as a staple of their evolved sound.
