History

PDX Pop Now! originated from a discussion{{cite web|url=http://www.indiepop.com/pdx-pop/pdxpopnow/|title=PDX Pop Now discussion on PDX-POP|website=Indiepop.com|date=|access-date=2016-07-16|df=mdy-all}} on PDX Pop,{{cite web|url=http://www.indiepop.com/pdx-pop|title=PDX Pop : Portland IndiePop Mailing List|website=Indiepop.com|date=1998-06-11|access-date=2016-07-16|df=mdy-all}} Portland Indiepop Mailing list, a long running listserv for Portland musicians, fans, and writers interested in discussing the local music scene. On Jan 15th, 2004 Kell Dockham started a question{{cite web|url=http://www.indiepop.com/pdx-pop/pdxpopnow/0000.html|title=PDX Pop Now discussion on PDX-POP|website=Indiepop.com|date=|access-date=2016-07-16|df=mdy-all}} about the sense of true unity in Portland music scene which ignited and inspired PDX Pop list members to organize a festival to celebrate local music. After two initial meetings, on Feb 3rd, 2004, Joshua Kirby sent out a meeting note{{cite web|url=http://www.indiepop.com/pdx-pop/pdxpopnow/0137.html|title=PDX Pop Now discussion on PDX-POP |website=Indiepop.com |date=2004-02-03 |access-date=2016-07-16|df=mdy-all}} to the PDX Pop list and pronounced the working title "PDX Pop Now", and thus a festival was born. This is how one e-email became a music festival.{{cite web|last=Dolan|first=Ciara|url=http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/the-pride-of-portland/Content?oid=18743|title=The Pride of Portland - Music|publisher=The Stranger|date=2004-07-08|access-date=2016-07-16|df=mdy-all}}
