Overview

The program had a sponsorship deal with Cheerwine, whose soft drinks were shown onscreen in every episode. It was cancelled due to viewership so low that it "barely registered".

Palmetto Pointe was a creative and financial failure, marred by poor production values. It was also derided by some of its few viewers as a clone of both Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill, series which shot in Wilmington, North Carolina and established that city's reputation as a filming location. Seven episodes of the series were produced, but only five aired. It ended in bankruptcy, with the cast and crew failing to receive their final paychecks.{{cite web |author=Prentiss Findlay |url=https://www.postandcourier.com/news/life-after-palmetto-pointe/article_1988e5b5-fd74-58a5-8f04-4dd8d2f47318.html |title=Life after 'Palmetto Pointe' |work=The Post and Courier |location=Charleston, South Carolina |date=March 14, 2010 |access-date=May 12, 2018}}{{Cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=V8EVAQAAMAAJ&q=Palmetto+pointe+series |title=International Television & Video Almanac |date=2007 |publisher=Quigley Publishing Company |isbn=978-0-900610-81-3 |language=en}}
