Pam Nugent (née Foley) is an Australian Paralympic swimmer. She was studying to be a nurse at Mater Hospital in Townsville, when she became paralysed from the waist down at the age of 19 after her new motorbike crashed over Castle Hill.{{cite news|title=They turn tragedy into triumph|publisher=The Sunday Sun|first=Marjorie|last=Stapleton|date=26 March 1972}}{{cite news|title=Pam may swim at Munich|publisher=The Courier-Mail|date=18 March 1972}} She took up swimming after the accident to strengthen her arms.
