Early life
Born in Rome, Guzzanti is the nephew of Elio Guzzanti and father to actors Corrado, Sabina, and Caterina. As a journalist, he worked for Avanti!, La Repubblica (of which he was a co-founder), and La Stampa. He also hosted the first season of the Chi l'ha visto? TV show. He is an editorialist of Paolo Berlusconi's Il Giornale; he was deputy director before and for Panorama, also owned by Berlusconi.
Career
Guzzanti was elected to the Italian Parliament for Forza Italia. From 2002 to 2006, he was president of the Mitrokhin Commission, a parliamentary commission that was entrusted by the centre-right coalition majority with investigating the role of the KGB in Italy. On 1 December 2006, Mario Scaramella, a contact of Litvinenko, tested positive for polonium-210. Scaramella was involved in the Italian parliamentary inquiry into KGB activity and was sufficiently worried by the contents of an e-mail to ask for advice from Litvinenko. The e-mail said that Guzzanti, Litvinenko, and Scaramella were possible targets for assassination.{{cite news|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6199464.stm |title=UK | Pair test positive for polonium |work=BBC News |date=2006-12-01 |accessdate=2011-08-12}} Around the same period, there was the publication of telephone interceptions between Guzzanti and Scaramella.
