Parviz Moin ({{langx|fa|پرویز معین}} Parviz Mo'in from Tehran, Iran) is a fluid dynamicist. He is the Franklin P. and Caroline M. Johnson Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University.[http://www.stanford.edu/group/fpc/Faculty/Moin.html Parviz Moin] at Stanford University Moin has been listed as an ISI Highly Cited author in engineering.[http://hcr3.isiknowledge.com/author.cgi?&link1=Browse&link2=Results&id=95 ISI Highly Cited Author - Parviz Moin] {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20070519223724/http://hcr3.isiknowledge.com/author.cgi |date=2007-05-19 }}

Biography

Moin is from Iran, and now lives in California. He received his Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1974, his Master's degree in mathematics and his Master's and Ph.D degrees in mechanical engineering from Stanford in 1978. Moin became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1981.{{cite web|title=Parviz Moin|url=http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?ti=0&indiv=try&db=usnatindex_awap&h=5755963|work=U.S. Naturalization Record Indexes, 1791-1992 (Indexed in World Archives Project)|publisher=Ancestry.com|accessdate=June 1, 2011|quote=Name: Parviz Moin; Birth Date: 23 Oct 1952; Age at event: 29; Court District: California; Date of Action: 1 Dec 1981}}{{subscription required}} He held the posts of National Research Council Fellow, Staff Scientist and Senior Staff Scientist at NASA Ames Research Center. He joined the Stanford faculty in September 1986.

Research

Moin pioneered the use of direct numerical simulation and large eddy simulation techniques for the study of turbulence physics, control and modelling concepts and has written widely on the structure of turbulent shear flows. His current interests include: interaction of turbulent flows and shock waves, aerodynamic noise and hydroacoustics, turbulence control, large eddy simulation and parallel computing.

Moin is the founding director of the Center for Turbulence Research at Stanford and Ames.{{cite web |url=http://www.aps.org/programs/honors/prizes/prizerecipient.cfm?last_nm=Moin&first_nm=Parviz&year=1996 |title=1996 Fluid Dynamics Prize Recipient |work=American Physical Society |year=1996 |accessdate=22 August 2015 }} Established in 1987 as a research consortium between NASA and Stanford, the Center for Turbulence Research is devoted to fundamental studies of turbulent flows.

He served as an Editor of the Annual Review of Fluid Mechanics from 2002-2024.{{Cite journal|last1=Davis|first1=Stephen H.|last2=Moin|first2=Parviz|date=2018-01-05|title=Introduction|journal=Annual Review of Fluid Mechanics|volume=50|issue=1|pages=v–vi|doi=10.1146/annurev-fl-50-120617-100001|bibcode=2018AnRFM..50D...5D|issn=0066-4189|doi-access=free}}{{cite web |title=CO-EDITORS OF THE ANNUAL REVIEW OF FLUID MECHANICS - VOLUME 53, 2021 |url=https://www.annualreviews.org/db/directory?2021,fluid |website=Annual Reviews |access-date=29 July 2021}}
