Military career

Travers was commissioned into the South Lancashire Regiment in 1947.{{London Gazette|issue=38136|supp=y|page=5696|date=28 November 1947}}

In 1978 he was selected to be Chief of Staff at the Logistics Executive{{London Gazette|issue=47508|supp=y|page=4410|date=10 April 1978}} before moving on, in 1979, to be Vice-Quartermaster-General.{{London Gazette|issue=47983|supp=y|page=13227|date=22 October 1979}} In 1981 he was appointed General Officer Commanding South East District{{London Gazette|issue=48511|supp=y|page=1564|date=2 February 1981}} and in 1982 he became Quartermaster-General to the Forces;{{London Gazette|issue=48928|supp=y|page=4007|date=22 March 1982}} he died in office in 1983.{{London Gazette|issue=49532|supp=y|page=14706|date=7 November 1983}} He is buried in Aldershot Military Cemetery.Photograph of grave shown in this article
