It is located adjacent to Mill Road near Streetsboro Road (Ohio State Route 303) in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Initially a stop on the Valley Railway, trains began regular service at Peninsula in 1880.{{cite news |title=In Running Order |url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/7984501/detail-account-of-first-valley-railway/ |access-date=7 May 2021 |agency=The Summit County Beacon |date=4 February 1880}} {{free access}} The original station building was destroyed in a fire in the 1960s.
