Anatomy

= Origin =

The pericardiacophrenic artery branches from the internal thoracic artery.

= Course =

The pericardiacophrenic arteries travel through the thoracic cavity. They course through the fibrous pericardium. The pericardiacophrenic artery accompanies the phrenic nerve between the pleura and pericardium, to the diaphragm.{{Cite journal|last1=Chapman|first1=Sally A.|last2=Holmes|first2=Mark D.|last3=Taylor|first3=D. = Distribution =

The pericardiacophrenic arteries provide arterial supply to the fibrous pericardium,{{Cite book|title=Gray's Anatomy for Students, 3rd Edition|last=Drake|first=Richard|publisher=Saunders|pages=182}} and (along with the musculophrenic arteries) the diaphragm.{{Cite book|title=Gray's Anatomy for Students, 3rd Edition|last=Drake|first=Richard|publisher=Saunders|pages=162}}

= Anastomoses =

It anastomoses with the musculophrenic, and superior phrenic arteries.{{Cite journal |last1=Sajja |first1=Lokeswara Rao |last2=Mannam |first2=Gopichand |last3=Dandu |first3=Satya Bhaskara Raju |last4=Sompalli |first4=Sriramulu |date=2012-08-01 |title=Reduction of sternal wound infections in diabetic patients undergoing off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery and using modified pedicle bilateral internal thoracic artery harvest technique |journal=The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery |language=en |volume=144 |issue=2 |pages=480–485 |doi=10.1016/j.jtcvs.2012.03.024 |issn=0022-5223 |pmid=22498089 |doi-access=free}}
