Peter von Köppen

Peter von Köppen (February 19, 1793- May 23, 1864), {{efn|known in Russia as Petr Köppen or Petr Keppen, {{langx|ru|Пётр Иванович Кёппен|Pyotr Ivanovich Kyoppen}}}} was a Russian ethnographer, historian, statistician, and geographer of German heritage, academician of the {{ill|Petersburg Academy of Sciences|ru|Петербургская академия наук}} (now Russian Academy of Sciences), holding the civil rank of Active State Councillor.s:ru:РБС/ВТ/Кеппен, Петр Иванович, an article in Русский биографический словарь А. In 1825 he earned the degree of doctor of philosophy from the University of Tübingen and in 1826 he was elected corresponding member of the [[Russian Academy of Sciences.
