Career

Born in Crete, Giakoumakis began playing football for Olympiakos Chersonissos and started his professional career after moving to Atsalenios in 2011. During his last season with the club Petros Giakoumakis scored 19 goals in 25 appearances, however his contribution was not enough for Atsalenios to remain in the Football League 2 and were relegated to the Heraklion FCA championships for the first time in 18 years.{{Cite news|url=http://www.patris.gr/articles/264841/173653#.V-EPeB-YFD8|title=Και όμως ο ΠΟΑ έπεσε!|date=5 July 2014|newspaper=Patris|language=Greek|trans-title=POA relegated|access-date=20 September 2016|archive-date=26 June 2022|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220626200916/https://archive.patris.gr/articles/264841/173653#.V-EPeB-YFD8|url-status=live}}

His good performances with Atsalenios did not go unnoticed by a number of Superleague clubs, with Panionios and OFI showing interest in signing the young forward for the summer transfer period of 2014.{{Cite news|url=https://archive.patris.gr/articles/264983|title=Ενδιαφέρον Πανιωνίου για Γιακουμάκη|date=8 July 2014|newspaper=Patris|language=Greek|trans-title=Panionios interest for Giakoumakis|access-date=25 November 2019|archive-date=26 June 2022|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220626200914/https://archive.patris.gr/articles/264983|url-status=live}} Platanias also invited him for a few-days-long trial in order to be checked out by then-Platanias manager Giannis Christopoulos.{{Cite news|url=https://archive.patris.gr/articles/265120|title=ΠΛΑΤΑΝΙΑΣ – Πήρε Αποστολόπουλο, δοκιμάζει Π. On 8 June 2019, Giakoumakis joined Atromitos, signing a contract until the summer of 2021, on a free transfer.{{Cite news|url=http://www.gazzetta.gr/football/superleague/article/1363577/anakoinose-giakoymaki-o-atromitos|title=Ανακοίνωσε Γιακουμάκη ο Ατρόμητος|access-date=8 June 2019|language=el|archive-date=8 June 2019|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190608105033/http://www.gazzetta.gr/football/superleague/article/1363577/anakoinose-giakoymaki-o-atromitos|url-status=live}} On 6 October, he scored his first goal for Atromitos in a 3–2 away win against Volos.{{Cite news |url=https://www.sport24.gr/football/ellada/SuperLeague/volos-atromhtos-2-3-apodrash-me-anatroph-apo-to-panthessaliko.5612433.html |title=Βόλος – Ατρόμητος 2–3: Απόδραση με ανατροπή από το Πανθεσσαλικό |access-date=6 October 2019 |language=el |archive-date=26 June 2022 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220626200916/https://www.sport24.gr/football/volos-atromitos-2-3-apodrasi-me-anatropi-apo-to-panthessaliko.8875362.html |url-status=live }} He scored a last-minute winner from Clarck N'Sikulu's assist at home to OFI Crete on 24 November.{{Cite news |url=https://www.oficrete.gr/ofi-crete-news/cruel-late-defeat-for-ofi-video |title=Cruel late defeat for OFI (video) |website=OFI Crete News |date=24 November 2019 |access-date=25 November 2019 |archive-date=26 June 2022 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220626200918/https://www.oficrete.gr/ofi-crete-news/cruel-late-defeat-for-ofi-video |url-status=live }} He then scored another last-minute winner against Panetolikos away from home, on 11 January 2020.{{cite web |url=http://www.sport24.gr/football/ellada/SuperLeague/panaitwlikos-atromhtos-0-1-epiase-eksada-me-giakoymakh-sto-90-4.5668206.html |title=Παναιτωλικός – Ατρόμητος 0-1: Έπιασε εξάδα με Γιακουμάκη στο 90+4' |publisher=sport24.gr |date=11 January 2020 |access-date=14 January 2020 |archive-date=14 January 2020 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200114192046/https://www.sport24.gr/football/ellada/SuperLeague/panaitwlikos-atromhtos-0-1-epiase-eksada-me-giakoymakh-sto-90-4.5668206.html |url-status=live }}

In subsequent years, Giakoumakis transferred to multiple clubs, including PAS Lamia (2022), Ionikos FC (2023), Makedonikos (2024), and Punjab FC (2025). Each move was either on a free transfer or following loan spells, showcasing his adaptability across Greek and international football markets.
