Club career
=Skoda Xanthi=
Petros Mantalos began playing professional football for Super League club Skoda Xanthi. He played a total of 90 games (15 goals, 10 assists) in all competitions and represented his country at under-19 and under-21 levels. His performances attracted the interest of Greek giants Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and AEK Athens, the latter club newly relegated from the Super League, bankrupt, and making a fresh start in the third-tier Football League 2.{{cite news|url=https://www.chicagotribune.com/2013/07/10/soccer-aek-athens-prepare-to-start-from-scratch-after-bankruptcy/|title=Soccer–AEK Athens prepare to start from scratch after bankruptcy|first=Graham|last=Wood|agency=Reuters|website=chicagotribune.com|date=10 July 2013|url-status=live|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180109064256/http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-07-10/news/sns-rt-soccer-greeceaek-20130710_1_soccer-aek-athens-club-bankruptcy|archive-date=9 January 2018}} In July 2013, Mantalos agreed to join AEK from the 2014–15 season.{{cite web|url=http://www.aekfc.gr/index.asp?a_id=1355&n_id=8142|script-title=el:Συμφωνία με Skoda Ξάνθης για Π.
