Philip G. Ziegler

Ziegler began his university studies at the Royal Military College of Canada and went on to graduate from the University of Toronto (B.A. Hons.), the University of St Michael’s College (M.A.), Regis College (S.T.L) and Emmanuel College of Victoria University / University of Toronto (M.Div. and Th.D.).  His postgraduate studies concentrated upon systematic and historical theology, ecumenics, and the philosophy of religion. His thesis in Toronto was published as Doing Theology When God is Forgotten – The Theological Achievement of Wolf Krötke,{{Cite book|last=Ziegler|first=Philip Gordon|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=es2XavAysCwC&pg=PP1|title=Doing Theology when God is Forgotten: The Theological Achievement of Wolf Krötke|date=2007|publisher=Peter Lang|isbn=978-0-8204-7874-6|language=en}} a leading Protestant theologian of the church in the former GDR and later eastern Germany after die Wende.

In 2000/01 he was a Junior Fellow of Massey College in the University of Toronto, and in 2001/02 he held a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Princeton University’s Center for the Study of Religion.{{Cite web|last=csrweb|title=Home|url=http://csr.princeton.edu/|access-date=2020-11-30|website=Center for the Study of Religion|language=en}}

From 2002 to 2005 he taught at the Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax, Canada as assistant professor of systematic theology. In January 2006 he joined the faculty of the University of Aberdeen in Divinity & Religious Studies. Since then, he has taught systematic theology and Christian doctrine at the University of Aberdeen where he was promoted to a personal chair in 2016. Ziegler is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK.

Together with Paul Nimmo and Tom Greggs, Ziegler co-founded and co-directs the Aberdeen Centre for Protestant Theology,{{Cite web|title=ABERDEEN CENTRE FOR PROTESTANT THEOLOGY|url=https://aberdeencentreforprotesanttheology.wordpress.com/|access-date=2020-11-30|website=ABERDEEN CENTRE FOR PROTESTANT THEOLOGY|language=en}} which aims at facilitating, coordinating and promoting advanced research in the field of Christian theology. The center hosts lectures and seminars from current voices who offer critical engagement as well as positive development of Protestant thought in service of the Church.

Along with others, he helps coordinate the 'Explorations in Theology and Apocalyptic'{{Cite web|title=THEOLOGY AND APOCALYPTIC|url=https://theologyandapocalyptic.wordpress.com/|access-date=2020-11-30|website=THEOLOGY AND APOCALYPTIC|language=en}} working group at the annual AAR / SBL meetings.
