Philopotinae is a subfamily of small-headed flies. They have an arched body shape, as well as enlarged postpronotal lobes that form a collar behind the head. Their larvae are endoparasites of araneomorph spiders in the subgroup Entelegynae.{{cite journal|last1=Gillung|first1=Jessica P.|last2=Winterton|first2=Shawn L.|year=2019|title=Evolution of fossil and living spider flies based on morphological and molecular data (Diptera, Acroceridae)|journal=Systematic Entomology|volume=44|issue=4|pages=820–841|doi=10.1111/syen.12358|doi-access=free|bibcode=2019SysEn..44..820G }}
