The boat is a smaller variant of the Shark 20 and a development of the Thai Mark IV.
The boat was named after the mythical bird as it was the first design built by the Gibbs Boat Company after its factory burned down.
Production
The design was built by the Gibbs Boat Company starting in 1964, as well as the MFG Boat Company in the United States, and Skene Boats in Canada. The design is now out of production.{{cite web|url =https://sailboatdata.com/builder/skene-boats-ltd-can |title = Skene Boats Ltd.|access-date = 16 April 2022|last= McArthur| first = Bruce |work = sailboatdata.com|year = 2020|archiveurl = https://archive.today/20200629211914/https://sailboatdata.com/builder/skene-boats-ltd-can |archivedate = 29 June 2020 |url-status= live}}{{cite web|url= https://sailboat.guide/skene|title= Skene Boats Ltd. 1968 — 1992|access-date= 16 April 2022|author= Sea Time Tech, LLC|work= sailboat.guide|year= 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220414145725/https://sailboat.guide/skene|archive-date= 14 April 2022|url-status= live}}{{cite web|url = https://sailboatdata.com/builder/mfg-boat-company-usa|title = MFG Boat Company (USA) 1965 - 1983|access-date = 16 April 2022|last= McArthur| first = Bruce |work = sailboatdata.com|year = 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220416214011/https://sailboatdata.com/builder/mfg-boat-company-usa|archive-date= 16 April 2022|url-status= live}}{{cite web|url= https://sailboat.guide/mfg|title= MFG Boat Company|access-date= 16 April 2022|author= Sea Time Tech, LLC|work= sailboat.guide|year= 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220416214042/https://sailboat.guide/mfg|archive-date= 16 April 2022|url-status= live}}{{cite web|url = https://sailboatdata.com/builder/gibbs-boat-co-usa|title = Gibbs Boat Co.
