Phyllops vetus is an extinct relative of the Cuban fig-eating bat.{{cite journal |last1=Anthony |first1=H.E. |title=A new rabbit and a new bat from neotropical regions. |journal=Bulletin of the AMNH |date=1917 |volume=37 |hdl=2246/1823}} Its remains have been found on Cuba and Isle of Pines.
P. vetus was smaller than its living relative. Recent discoveries in Cuba suggest that it survived into the Late Quaternary, perhaps as recently as 2,000 years ago.{{cite journal|last1=Orihuela|first1=Johanset|last2=Pérez Orozco|first2=Leonel|last3=Álvarez Licourt|first3=Jorge L.|last4=Viera Muñoz|first4=Ricardo A.|last5=Santana Barani|first5=Candido|title=Late Holocene land vertebrate fauna from Cueva de los Nesofontes, Western Cuba: Stratigraphy, chronology, diversity, and paleoecology|journal=Palaeontologia Electronica|year=2020|volume=23|issue=3|pages=a57|issn=1935-3952|doi=10.26879/995|doi-access=free}}
