Playing career
Uys began his representative career with {{rut|Free State}} Under 21s and made his senior provincial debut for Free State in 1998. He then moved to {{rut|Griquas}} and in 2001 he switched to the {{rut|Pumas}}, and also played six matches for the {{rut|Bulls}} in the Super 12. Uys played one test match for the Springboks, the test against {{nrut|Scotland}} during the 2002 end-of-year tour of Europe.
