Pila scutata is a species of gastropod belonging to the family Ampullariidae.{{cite web |title=Pila scutata (Mousson, 1848) |url=https://www.gbif.org/species/7830566 |website=www.gbif.org |access-date=27 October 2021 |language=en}}

The species is found in Southeastern Asia and Central America. However, it has been taken from its native habitat to be used as a food delicacy, control of weeds in freshwater, a component in home aquariums, and as a vector for parasitic larva in the freshwater.{{Cite journal|last=Hollingsworth|first=R.G|date=2007|title=Distribution of Parmarion cf. martensi (Pulmonata: Helicarionidae), a new semi-slug pest on Hawai'i Island, and its potential as a vector for human angiostrongyliasis|url=http://manoa.hawaii.edu/ctahr/farmfoodsafety/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Hollingsworth_2007_Distribution.pdf|journal=Pacific Science|volume=61|issue=4 |pages=457–467|doi=10.2984/1534-6188(2007)61[457:DOPCMP]2.0.CO;2 |s2cid=14202324 }} This has made it very difficult to determine Pila scutata's true native range.{{Cite journal|last=Tan|first=S.K|date=2013|title=The status of the apple snail, Pila scutata (Gastropoda: Ampullariidae) in Singapore|url=https://www.researchgate.net/publication/242335434|journal=Nature in Singapore|volume=6|pages=135–141}}
