The Players Champions Cup is the trophy awarding to the winner of a hurling competition held periodically in the United States. It has been staged three times as the Fenway Hurling Classic in Boston, Massachusetts, and once as the New York Hurling Classic in Queens, New York. The first two editions were sponsored by AIG,{{cite web |url=https://www.bostonirish.com/around-town/they’re-lining-aig-fenway-hurling-classic |title=They're lining up for the AIG Fenway Hurling Classic |website=bostonirish.com |date=October 30, 2015 |accessdate=November 18, 2018}}{{cite web|url=http://www.gaa.ie/hurling/news/double-header-announced-for-aig-fenway-hurling-classic/ |title=Double-header announced for AIG Fenway Hurling Classic|date=27 June 2017|work=GAA.ie|accessdate=1 November 2017}} while the most recent editions have been sponsored by Aer Lingus.{{cite web |url=https://www.mlb.com/redsox/tickets/events/fenway-hurling-classic |title=Fenway Hurling Classic |website=MLB.com |date=2018 |accessdate=November 18, 2018}}{{cite web |url=https://www.mlb.com/mets/tickets/specials/hurling |title=The New York Hurling Classic |website=MLB.com |date=2019 |accessdate=November 16, 2019}}
Format
Matches are played in the Super 11’s format, which only permits goals to be scored, not points. Goals scored inside the {{convert|20|yard|m}} exclusion zone are worth three points, else five points from outside. The 2015 event was a single match, divided into four 15-minute quarters with unlimited substitutions. Later events have had two semi-final matches then a final match, all held on the same day, with matches divided into two 20-minutes halves. Yellow cards result in a two-minute spell in the sin bin and frees are taken on a tap-and-go basis. A team has 30 seconds after gaining possession to attempt a shot at goal. This is reduced to 20 seconds in the final two minutes of each period. The dimensions of the pitch are {{convert|100|yard|m}} x {{convert|53|yard|m}}—the size of a gridiron football pitch, without the end zones—which is laid into halves, with a defensive zone marked by a line drawn {{convert|20|yard|m}} from each goal line.{{cite web|url=https://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/hurling/these-things-happen-fenway-classic-brawl-dismissed-as-galway-take-honours-34224516.html |title='These things happen' - Fenway Classic brawl dismissed as Galway take honours|date=23 November 2015|work=Irish Independent|accessdate=1 November 2017}}{{cite web|url=https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/gaelic-games/hurling/hurling-breaking-new-ground-in-boston-s-fenway-park-1.3294425 |title=Hurling breaking new ground in Boston's Fenway Park|date=16 November 2017|work=Irish Times|accessdate=20 November 2017}}{{cite web|url=https://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/hurling/hurling-super-11s-explained-eight-new-rules-pitch-size-and-scoring-system-36333468.html |title=Hurling Super 11s explained: Eight new rules, pitch size and scoring system|date=19 November 2017|work=Irish Independent|accessdate=20 November 2017}}
