Point Peter is an unincorporated community in Oglethorpe County, in the U.S. state of Georgia.{{GNIS|332718|name=Point Peter}}

History

A post office called Point Peter was established in 1849, and remained in operation until 1957.{{cite web | url=https://www.postalhistory.com/postoffices.asp?state=GA | title=Post Offices | publisher=Jim Forte Postal History | accessdate=23 May 2019}} The community was named after one "{{notatypo|Pint}} Peter", a whiskey peddler; a postal error accounts for the error in spelling, which was never corrected.{{cite book | url=http://www.kenkrakow.com/gpn/p.pdf| title=Georgia Place-Names: Their History and Origins | publisher=Winship Press | author=Krakow, Kenneth K. | year=1975 | location=Macon, GA | pages=179 | isbn=0-915430-00-2}} Older variant names are "Glade" and "The Glade".
