History
The settlement was founded in 1740 and it received the status of an urban-type settlement in 1938.
Until 18 July 2020, Poninka belonged to Polonne Raion. The raion was abolished in July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Khmelnytskyi Oblast to three. The area of Polonne Raion was merged into Shepetivka Raion.{{Cite news|title=Про утворення та ліквідацію районів. Until 26 January 2024, Poninka was designated urban-type settlement.
