Porn 'n' Chicken was a student club based at Yale University whose members met to watch pornography and eat fried chicken. The group briefly gained notoriety in 2001 when they announced plans to shoot their own adult film, titled The StaXXX, on campus with other students.{{Cite news |last=Herszenhorn |first=David M. |date=2001-01-26 |title=Yale´s New Grades: A, B, C, D and X |language=en-US |work=The New York Times |url=https://www.nytimes.com/2001/01/26/nyregion/yaleacutes-new-grades-a-b-c-d-and-x.html |access-date=2023-12-14 |issn=0362-4331}}{{Cite book |last=Harden |first=Nathan |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=F4XLCkzTNIQC&dq=Porn+'n+Chicken&pg=PA109 |title=Sex and God at Yale: Porn, Political Correctness, and a Good Education Gone Bad |date=2012-08-21 |publisher=Macmillan |isbn=978-1-250-01354-5 |language=en}}

The film was never released or even completed. Nevertheless, a fictionalized version of the club's experiences was produced as a 2002 American TV movie titled Porn 'n Chicken and broadcast on Comedy Central.

Student club

In October 2000 an article in The Yale Herald announced the first known public discussion of the club, mentioning the project of its own adult film. The film's name had already been selected -- The StaXXX. Filming commenced in January 2001, and publications including The New Yorker, Fox News Boston, Hustler, The New York Post, Brill's Content, The Village Voice, Premiere, Evening Standard inquired for information on the production.{{Cite web |last=Hurst |first=Alex |title=Porn, chicken and the new Ivy League expression |url=https://www.thedp.com/article/2001/02/porn_chicken_and_the_new_ivy_league_expression |access-date=2023-12-14 |website=www.thedp.com |language=en-us}} Only a trailer was ever completed, and shown before a screening at the Yale Film Society.[http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/university-news/2001/04/25/staxxx-trailer-has-stacks-and-some-skin/ 'StaXXX' trailer has stacks -- and some skin] {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100418205822/http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/university-news/2001/04/25/staxxx-trailer-has-stacks-and-some-skin/ |date=2010-04-18 }}, Chris Rovzar and Eli Muller, Yale Daily News, April 25, 2001

Film adaptation of the story

James Ponsoldt and fellow Yale alumni sold the Porn 'n Chicken stories to Comedy Central, who filmed on the Columbia University campus.{{Cite book |last1=Ross |first1=Harold Wallace |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=nJQeAQAAMAAJ&q=Porn+'n+Chicken |title=The New Yorker |last2=Shawn |first2=William |last3=Brown |first3=Tina |last4=White |first4=Katharine Sergeant Angell |last5=Remnick |first5=David |last6=Irvin |first6=Rea |last7=Angell |first7=Roger |date=2002 |publisher=F-R Publishing Corporation |language=en}} Directed by Lawrence Trilling, Porn 'n Chicken featured fictionalized versions of group activities and premiered on Comedy Central on October 13, 2002.{{Cite web |last= |first= |last2= |last3= |date=2002-09-06 |title=Porn 'N Chicken |url=https://yaledailynews.com/blog/2002/09/06/porn-n-chicken/ |access-date=2024-01-08 |website=Yale Daily News |language=en}}

= Reception =

It received mixed critical reception, with the New York Daily News called it "more boring than offensive,"{{Cite web |last=WIRE |date=2000-03-21 |title=Review: 'Porn 'n' Chicken' more boring than offensive |url=https://journaltimes.com/review-porn-n-chicken-more-boring-than-offensive/article_c0985dbb-5cad-5984-a8ec-fb208213d0a8.html |access-date=2023-12-14 |website=Journal Times |language=en}} but Variety commenting, "Sweeter and more relevant than its fratboy title suggests, Comedy Central’s Porn ‘n Chicken is a likable fusion of, of all things, Animal House, Dead Poets Society and Deep Throat."{{Cite web |last=Speier |first=Michael |date=2002-10-11 |title=Porn 'n Chicken |url=https://variety.com/2002/tv/reviews/porn-n-chicken-1200545539/ |access-date=2023-12-14 |website=Variety |language=en-US}} while the Daily Free Press stated, "Beyond the necessity of well spent free time, as expected, the message of Porn ‘n Chicken is largely empty. However, the two-hour escape succeeds admirably as a mental nap and an amusing tale of sticky-fingered American college students with little to revolt against besides the dullness of their existence."{{Cite web |date=2002-10-17 |title='Porn 'n Chicken' unsatisfying? – The Daily Free Press |url=https://dailyfreepress.com/2002/10/17/porn-n-chicken-unsatisfying/ |access-date=2023-12-14 |language=en-US}}
