  • Typhoon Haishen approaches Japan, threatening the coasts of Okinawa and the island of Kyushu.   • The fourth night of protests in Rochester, New York, over the death of Daniel Prude, becomes the largest so far, and again it ends with pepper balls, tear gas, and fireworks. Rochester Police Department arrests nine people, including two on felony charges. Three officers are also treated at the hospital for injuries. A U-Haul truck is set on fire in a parking lot before firefighters arrive to put it out.   • The 146th Kentucky Derby is held after being delayed for four months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
