Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSS®E—often written as PSS/E) is a software tool used by power system engineers to simulate electrical power transmission networks{{Cite book |last=Domínguez-Navarro |first=José Antonio |url=https://www.google.co.in/books/edition/Power_System_Simulation_Control_and_Opti/GSg0EAAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=%22Power+system+simulator+for+engineering%22+-wikipedia&pg=PA150&printsec=frontcover |title=Power System Simulation, Control and Optimization |last2=Yusta-Loyo |first2=Jos´e Mar´ıa |date=2021-06-21 |publisher=MDPI |isbn=978-3-0365-0748-4 |pages=150 |language=en}} in steady-state conditions{{Cite journal |last=Zimmerman |first=Ray Daniel |last2=Murillo-Sanchez |first2=Carlos Edmundo |last3=Thomas |first3=Robert John |date= |title=MATPOWER: Steady-State Operations, Planning, and Analysis Tools for Power Systems Research and Education |url=http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/5491276/ |journal=IEEE Transactions on Power Systems |volume=26 |issue=1 |pages=12–19 |doi=10.1109/TPWRS.2010.2051168 |issn=0885-8950}} as well as over timescales of a few seconds to tens of seconds.
Since its introduction in 1976, it has evolved from a simple command-line interface, to an integrated, interactive program for simulating, analyzing, and optimizing power system performance, and it can provide probabilistic and dynamic modeling features.
