In December 2005, Press Holdings sold The Scotsman Publications to the Edinburgh-based Johnston Press for £160m,Daily Telegraph, 19 December 2005, [https://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/2928678/Johnston-Press-buys-The-Scotsman.html Johnston Press buys The Scotsman] having paid £82m for the group in 1995.

The company formerly owned The Spectator, a weekly British political magazine, and Apollo, an art magazine.
