History
The group was started in 2014 in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, as part of the GRUBB organisation and the members involved used the band in school appearances to spread their positive message, along with holding workshops for children to teach them dance, music, and acting.{{cite news |last=Dejanović |first=Marija |date=February 23, 2021 |title=Nova.rs u romskoj mahali s bendom Pretty loud |trans-title=Nova.rs in the Roma neighborhood with the band Pretty loud |url=https://nova.rs/zabava/showbiz/video-intervju-nova-rs-u-romskoj-mahali-s-bendom-pretty-loud/ |language=Serbian |work=Nova.rs |access-date=July 3, 2021}} The idea for the band arose at artistic workshops held by GRUBB, where Pretty Loud members were part of the GRUBB Show and decided to start their own all-girl group. Two of the first members were Zlata Ristic and Silvia Sinani, who encouraged the group toward using rap and hip hop as the best way to openly discuss the issues in their communities and to help fight discrimination and improve education levels within the Roma community.{{cite news |last=Milićević |first=Violeta |date=March 27, 2021 |title=PRETTY LOUD, PRVI ŽENSKI ROMSKI BEND IZ SRBIJE : One se muzikom bore za ženska prava i protiv diskriminacije |trans-title=PRETTY LOUD, THE FIRST WOMEN'S ROMA BAND FROM SERBIA: They fight for women's rights and discrimination with music |url=https://niskevesti.rs/pretty-loud-prvi-zenski-romski-bend-iz-srbije-one-se-muzikom-bore-za-zenska-prava-i-protiv-diskriminacije/ |language=Serbian |work=Niške Vesti |access-date=July 3, 2021}} Band member Silvia Sinani recalled the band's name arose from the notion that Roma women are not typically very loud.
The members of Pretty Loud include a 19-year-old law student, a young single mother, schoolgirls and young professionals, all who live in challenging environments within Roma settlements.{{cite news |author= |title=Roma band in Serbia raps for women's rights |url=https://www.dw.com/en/roma-band-in-serbia-raps-for-womens-rights/av-56584103 |work=Deutsche Welle |date=February 18, 2021 |access-date=July 3, 2021}}{{cite news |last=Petkovic |first=Milana |date=February 5, 2021 |title=Prvi ženski romski bend u svetu i to iz Srbije: Želimo da devojke prestanu da misle kako moraju da ćute pred muškarcima |trans-title=The first female Roma band in the world from Serbia: We want girls to stop thinking they have to keep quiet in front of men |language=Serbian |url=https://noizz.rs/big-stories/intervju-sa-zenskim-romskim-bendom-pretty-loud/bs8w1j0 |work=Noizz Magazine |access-date=July 3, 2021}}
