History
The library building, Candie House, and its initial collection of books were donated to the island by Osmond de Beauvoir Priaulx in 1889.[http://www.priaulxlibrary.co.uk/priaulx-library-history.asp Priaulx Library] The initial collection included references on European, Classical and Oriental literature, military history and local genealogy.[http://www.bl.uk/reshelp/findhelpregion/europe/uk/channisle/channelcol.html Channel Islands Collections] The building was subsequently extended and the collection enlarged with material covering all aspects of Guernsey history.
Today
The library's collection of local history and genealogy records makes it a primary resource for researchers in these areas. It also hosts exhibitions and lectures.[http://guernseyhistory.com/priaulx-library-new-details2.asp?ItemID=134 Priaulx Library] {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110711132705/http://guernseyhistory.com/priaulx-library-new-details2.asp?ItemID=134 |date=2011-07-11 }}
