Pride parades in Nepal

{{short description|Annual LGBT events in Nepal}}

Throughout the year, different organizations host pride parades in Nepal. Blue Diamond Society, an LGBT rights organization, in 2010 organized Gai Jatra Gay March, with most participants on masks to prevent being identified by suspected homophobic people. In recent years, many pride parades in different times of the years have been organized. Due to criticism of Blue Diamond Society for organizing pride parade in Gaijatra festival many organizations deviated into new rallies.{{cite web|url = http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/south-asia/Nepal-gays-take-the-bull-by-the-horn/articleshow/6432937.cms|title = Hundreds join Nepal's first gay pride parade|publisher = Times of India|date = Aug 25, 2010}} All the parades by Blue Diamond Society have coincided with the Gaijatra festival. The parades end with a candle-light vigil in memories of those who died in the past year, promoting equality for all.

Trans Pride Parade

Trans Pride Parade is celebrated the Saturday following December 17. The event is organized by Queer Youth Group and Trans Rights Collective since 2020. The event marks a linguistic landmark on 17 December 2018 when the term transgender was introduced in Nepali language as pāralaingik ({{langx|ne|पारलैङ्गिक}}), while prior to it trans people were referred with derogatory terminologies in the language. The event was held in Basantapur, Kathmandu.{{cite web | url = https://nepalprideparade.com/trans-pride-eng/ | title = Trans Pride Parade | publisher = Nepal Pride Parade | year = 2020 | archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20201220072759/https://nepalprideparade.com/trans-pride-nep/ | archive-date = 20 December 2020 | url-status = live }}{{cite web | url =https://deshsanchar.com/2020/12/19/451289/ | title ='हामी तेस्रो लिंगी होइनौँ, पारलैंगिक हौँ' (तस्बिरहरु) | publisher = Desh Sanchar| year = 2020 | archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20201220074212/https://deshsanchar.com/2020/12/19/451289/ | archive-date = 20 December 2020 | url-status = live }}{{cite web | url =https://aawaajnews.com/social/queer-community-creates-history-with-first-ever-trans-pride-parade-with-photos/ | title =Queer community creates history with first ever Trans Pride Parade (with photos) | publisher = Aaawaj News | year = 2020 | archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20201227113846/https://aawaajnews.com/social/queer-community-creates-history-with-first-ever-trans-pride-parade-with-photos/ | archive-date = 27 December 2020 | url-status = live }}{{cite web|url=https://archive.org/details/013-77-78 | title=013-77-78 | date=17 December 2020 | publisher=Queer Youth Group,Nepal}} In 2021, around a hundred people marched from Fibwakhya (Maitighar Mandala) to New Baneshwar.{{cite web |title=Annual Trans Pride Parade to be held tomorrow |url=https://kathmandupost.com/art-culture/2021/12/17/annual-trans-pride-parade-to-be-held-tomorrow |website=The Kathmandu Post |access-date=24 December 2021}}{{cite web |title=Around a hundred people came together for Second Annual Trans Pride Parade |url=https://twitter.com/PrideParadeNp/status/1472146887616516101 |publisher=Nepal Pride Parade |access-date=24 December 2021}}

Blue Diamond Society organizes an LGBT March on a Newar festival Gai Jatra(Saa Paaru). However, the event isn't seen as a Pride Parade, and rather a celebration of its own, different from 'Western concept' of Pride Parade.{{cite web| url=https://medium.com/@sunilbabupant/why-nepal-may-never-call-it-a-gay-pride-march-cb9a2771fe0f | title=Why Nepal may never call it a Gay Pride March? | publisher=Medium |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170706043221/https://medium.com/@sunilbabupant/why-nepal-may-never-call-it-a-gay-pride-march-cb9a2771fe0f |archive-date=6 July 2017 |url-status=dead}}
