He died in a clinic in Tutzing, Bavaria because of a lack of blood transfusion facilities. He and his wife fled their home in light of the Russian advance, arriving in Tutzing, where Waldemar was able to receive his last blood transfusion.{{cite web |url=http://www.baronage.co.uk/nl/nl-02-02.htm |title=The Feudal Herald |publisher=Pegasus Associates and The Baronage Press |access-date=29 September 2010 |archive-date=6 May 2021 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210506190814/http://www.baronage.co.uk/nl/nl-02-02.htm |url-status=dead }} The U.S. Army overran the area the next day, on 1 May 1945, and diverted all medical resources to treat nearby concentration camp victims, preventing Waldemar's doctor from treating him. Waldemar died the following day, on 2 May.
