Prochlorothrix hollandica is a species of cyanobacteria named under the Bacteriological Code in 1989. It is the only species in genus Prochlorothrix, which is the only species in family Prochlorotrichaceae, which is the only family in order Prochlorotrichales.{{cite web |title=Genus: Prochlorothrix |url=https://lpsn.dsmz.de/genus/prochlorothrix |website=lpsn.dsmz.de |language=en}} The lineage produces chlorophyll b. It is found in temperate and subpolar zones, in freshwater and brackish water. The lineage is sister to Synechococcales.{{cite journal |last1=Strunecký |first1=Otakar |last2=Ivanova |first2=Anna Pavlovna |last3=Mareš |first3=Jan |title=An updated classification of cyanobacterial orders and families based on phylogenomic and polyphasic analysis |journal=Journal of Phycology |date=February 2023 |volume=59 |issue=1 |pages=12–51 |doi=10.1111/jpy.13304|pmid=36443823 |bibcode=2023JPcgy..59...12S }}
