The Progreso Port of Entry was opened in July, 1952, with the completion of the Progreso – Nuevo Progreso International Bridge. The original US Border Inspection Station was replaced by the General Services Administration in 1983, and the bridge itself was rebuilt in 2003.{{cite web |url=ftp://ftp.dot.state.tx.us/pub/txdot-info/iro/2011_international_bridges.pdf |title=Texas-Mexico International Bridges and Border Crossings Existing and Proposed 2011 |work=Texas Department of Transportation |publisher=Texas Department of Transportation |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20121023172806/http://ftp.dot.state.tx.us/pub/txdot-info/iro/2011_international_bridges.pdf |archive-date=2012-10-23 |url-status=dead |accessdate=2013-02-10}}
