Welcome to WikiProject Quran. Several Wikipedians have formed this collaboration resource and group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of Quran and the organization of information and articles on this topic. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions and various resources; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians interested in the topic. If you would like to help, please join the project, inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list below.

Goals

This is a project aimed at increasing the quality of the articles related to the Quran, elevating the articles to "Good article" standard, and then all the way to "Featured article" standard.

We do this by:

  • Making sure all statements are sourced using the "source" model
  • Making sure the articles follow the given standards.

As of 2013-06-15, we have 0 (Zero) article in the "Good article" standard and 0 (zero) in the "Featured article" standard.

{{WikiProject Islam|class=|importance=|religious-texts=yes|religious-texts-importance=}} is added to the top of the talk pages of the article relevant to this project. This will make them appear on the :Category:WikiProject Quran.

Scope

  • Scope of this project is to write articles covering first the 114 Surahs of the Quran
  • Secondary scope is to link articles relating to the Quran (such as scientific discoveries, which are already mentioned in the Quran)

Guidelines

Call people to the path of your Lord with wisdom and goodly exhortation, and argue with them in the most kindly manner. Your Lord knows best who strays from His path and who are rightly guided. (16:125)

A suggested outline for articles devoted to each of the Surah of the Quran could be as follows:

  • Name
  • Timing and contextual background of revelation (Asbab an nuzul)
  • Theme and Subject Matter
  • Translation and Transliteration
  • Commentary (Ruku wise Tafsir)
  • Grammatical and linguistic analysis
  • Implications of the Surah / Ruku' on a Muslim's life
  • Quranic order

:* Relative to other Surahs

::* Relation to topics discussed in previous and next Surahs

::* Relation to overall place (Hizb, topical groupings etc)

:* Relative to time of revelation

  • Relevant Ahadith

:* Ahadith mentioning Tafsir or other details of the Surah

:* Ahadith mentioning the benefits of the Surah

  • Common misconceptions and misunderstandings
  • Scientific, historic & other facts in the Surah
  • See also
  • Notes and References
  • External links

As a general rule, Surahs having more than 2 Ruku's can have separate Wikipedia articles for each couple of Ruku. Those with less than 2 Ruku's can have a single Wikipedia article.

The [http://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newCS_85.htm 7Cs of effective communication] is a good guide on how to write effectively in English. Of course, Manual of Style relating to Islamic articles, Wikipedia's Plain and Simple and Wikipedia's Cheat Sheet are a great resource for new editors.

Further, please use the Template:Cite quran wherever applicable to standardize the manner in which the Quran is quoted throughout Wikipedia.

== How much details should the articles contain ==

Note that this is an encyclopedic article - any details that won't benefit the general reader could be avoided here, but of course referred to (for instance add a footnote in the "Notes and reference" section). For instance mentioning the names of the Narrators/Scholars would not be important to a person wanting to know about a particular Ayah. However, the narration / opinion itself could benefit the general public. You can of course add a link to a website which discusses the names of the narrators / scholars etc.

Generally, people do not like to read very long articles - rather prefer to the point talk.

It's also encouraged to classify paragraphs under headings, so that readers can get to the point of their specific interest quickly.
