Background

The President of Tanzania may declare additional holidays at his or her discretion, as stated in article 3 of the Public Holidays Act, for example, during the general election day. A recent example of this was on 4 November 2015 where President Kikwete announced a national holiday for the next day to celebrate Magufuli winning the presidential election.{{Cite web|title = Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania - Tovuti Rasmi ya Rais|url = http://ikulu.go.tz/index.php/media/press_details/1971|website = ikulu.go.tz|access-date = 2015-11-04}}

Karume day, Saba saba day and Nyerere day do not appear in the Public Holidays Act, and are declared by the President. This happens however traditionally every year.{{cite web |title=Public Holidays 2023 |url=https://www.bot.go.tz/webdocs/Other/2023%20public%20holidays.pdf |access-date=11 August 2023 |publisher=Bank of Tanzania}}{{cite web |title=Public Holidays |url=https://www.foreign.go.tz/tanzania/category/public-holidays |access-date=2 January 2024 |publisher=Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation}}{{Cite web |title=PUBLIC HOLIDAYS IN TANZANIA - 2025 |url=https://dse.co.tz/storage/news/Iv0nMVve2cg7BZF4AADrYVnfYU4dlNSTTrWFKM4c.pdf |access-date=2025-02-25 |website=Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange}}{{Cite web |title=Tanzania Public & Private Holidays in 2025 (Full List) |url=https://www.edarabia.com/tanzania/public-holidays/ |access-date=2025-02-25 |website=edarabia.com |language=en-US}}
