Critical reception
David Turner of The Fader highlighted the song "Control" as "a breezy seaside joyride built on slow builds and wavy echoes" and also praised Doja Cat's "spacey singing style" throughout the record.{{Cite web|last=Turner|first=David|date=August 5, 2014|title=LA Singer Doja Cat Drops Her New EP Purrr!|url=https://www.thefader.com/2014/08/05/la-singer-doja-cat-drops-her-new-ep-empurrrem|url-status=live|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140925014742if_/http://www.thefader.com/2014/08/05/la-singer-doja-cat-drops-her-new-ep-empurrrem|archive-date=September 25, 2014|access-date=January 23, 2021|website=The Fader}} Briana Cheng of Dazed wrote that on "No Police", she "fiercely meows" and "sassily" raps and sings over a "mild" guitar riff as part of the "mollifying" beat, notably humming from the police sirens from Lil Wayne's 2008 single "Mrs. Officer".{{Cite web|last=Cheng|first=Briana|date=September 26, 2014|title=Sensitive tracks of the month|url=https://www.dazeddigital.com/music/article/21947/1/sensitive-tracks-of-the-month|access-date=July 24, 2021|website=Dazed}} Petar Kujundzic of Hypebeast described Purrr! as "a fine list of bass-heavy, alternative R&B tracks" and highlighted the song "No Police" for "offering the best of her vocal and lyrical abilities".{{Cite web|last=Kujundzic|first=Petar|date=August 7, 2014|title=Don't Sleep on Doja Cat's 'Purrr!'
