History

Osler stated he developed the design after transitioning to a desk job after 30 years in the operating room as a trauma surgeon.{{cite news |last1=Kalish |first1=John |title=This retired Vermont doctor designs active chairs for healthy sitting |url=https://www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2022/05/24/active-chair-healthy-sitting |access-date=17 October 2022 |work=Here & Now |agency=wbur |publisher=National Public Radio |date=24 May 2022}} In his role as a research epidemiologist, Osler spent up to 60 hours a week sitting and claimed to develop back pain as a result.{{cite news |last1=Kalish |first1=Jon |title=Vt. surgeon builds better chair for active sitting |url=https://www.addisonindependent.com/2022/06/16/vt-surgeon-builds-better-chair-for-active-sitting/ |access-date=23 August 2023 |work=Addison County Independent |date=16 June 2022}}{{cite news |last1=Higdon |first1=Bridget |title=This father-son duo from Colchester wants to change how the world sits |url=https://www.miltonindependent.com/news/this-father-son-duo-from-colchester-wants-to-change-how-the-world-sits/article_a3a586e5-2cc8-54b2-aab1-25fbc36dcee4.html |access-date=23 August 2023 |work=Milton Independent |date=17 May 2021}}

The chairs are designed around a feature Osler patented as RedRocker technology; a dome-shaped rubber piece beneath the seat that allows it to wobble and pivot. Each model of chair resembles a stool.{{cite news |last1=D'Ambrosio |first1=Dan |title=Burlington startup takes on 'sitting disease' with patented new chair |url=https://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/story/money/2019/01/29/chronic-back-pain-btv-startup-qor-360-patented-chair-help-sitting-disease/2680195002 |access-date=13 October 2022 |work=Burlington Free Press |date=29 January 2019}} The chair’s design requires the sitter to keep both feet on the ground and places the knees below the hips.
