Quincunx matrix

{{Short description|2x2 matrix with 1 and -1 coefficients}}

In mathematics, the matrix

: \begin{pmatrix}

1 & -1 \\

1 & 1

\end{pmatrix}

is sometimes called the quincunx matrix. It is a 2×2 Hadamard matrix, and its rows form the basis of a diagonal square lattice consisting of the integer points whose coordinates both have the same parity; this lattice is a two-dimensional analogue of the three-dimensional body-centered cubic lattice.{{citation|title=On the multidimensional extension of the quincunx subsampling matrix|last1= Van De Ville|first1= D. |last2= Blu|first2= T. |last3=Unser|first3= M.|journal=IEEE Signal Processing Letters|volume=12|issue=2|year=2005|pages=112–115|doi=10.1109/LSP.2004.839697|url=http://www.ee.cuhk.edu.hk/~tblu/monsite/pdfs/vandeville0501.pdf|citeseerx= 10.1.1.649.9329}}.
