R with stroke (majuscule: Ɍ, minuscule: ɍ) is a letter of the extended Latin alphabet, derived from R with the addition of a flat bar through the middle of the letter. It should not be confused with {{not a typo|℞}}, a symbol used for medical prescriptions.
Usage
It is used in the Kanuri language, where it represents a voiced retroflex consonant sound, although the exact manner of articulation is unclear and may vary between a lateral approximant {{IPA blink|ɭ}}, a lateral tap {{IPA blink|𝼈}}, or a non-lateral tap {{IPA blink|ɽ}}.{{cite book |last1=Jarrett |first1=Kevin |editor1-last=Blench |editor1-first=Roger |title=A dictionary of Manga, a Kanuri language of Eastern Niger and NE Nigeria |date=2003 |url=https://www.rogerblench.info/Language/Nilo-Saharan/Saharan/Manga%20dictionary%20Unicode.pdf |access-date=25 May 2025}}
It also appears in Tunisian Arabic transliteration (based on Maltese with additional letters).{{citation needed|date=May 2025}}
Ɍ was also used in the Unified Northern Alphabet, which was based on Latin rather than Cyrillic letters because it was developed during the later-cancelled process of Latinisation in the Soviet Union. However, this character was only used within the UNA for the Aleut language.{{cite book |title=Материалы 1 Всесоюзной Конференции по развитию языков и письменности народов Севера |date=1932 |pages=104, 114 |url=https://archive.org/details/materialy_1_konferentsii_ghj_razvitiyu_pismennosti_i_yazykov_narodov_severa/page/103/mode/1up |access-date=25 May 2025 |language=ru |trans-title=Proceedings of the 1st All-Union Conference on the Development of Languages and Writing of the Peoples of the North}}
