Rabdophaga albipennis is a gall midge which forms galls on the shoots of white willow (Salix alba).
Description
The gall is a slight swelling on a twig just below a bud on white willow (Salix alba). Inside the gall is a reddish-orange larvae which later makes an emergence hole in the twig or bud and overwinters in the gall.{{cite book|last1=Redfern|first1=Margaret|last2=Shirley|first2=Peter|last3=Boxham|first3=Michael|title=British Plant Galls|date=2011|publisher=Field Study Council|location=Shrewsbury|isbn=978-185153-284-1|pages=282–299|edition=Second}}{{cite web|last1=Ellis|first1=W N|title=Rabdophaga albipennis (Loew, 1850)|url=http://bladmineerders.nl/parasites/animalia/arthropoda/insecta/diptera/nematocera/cecidomyiidae/cecidomyiinae/lasiopteridi/oligotrophini/rabdophaga/rabdophaga-albipennis/|website=Plant Parasites of Europe|access-date=21 March 2018}}
