Raise A Suilen (stylized as RAISE A SUILEN) is a Japanese all-female rock band that is part of Bushiroad's media franchise BanG Dream!. Formed in 2018, the group's members portray fictional characters in the project's anime series and mobile game BanG Dream! Girls Band Party! in addition to performing their characters' respective instruments in live concerts.

Raise A Suilen consists of Raychell (vocals, bass guitar), Riko Kohara (guitar), Natsume (drums), Reo Kurachi (keyboards, vocals), and Risa Tsumugi (DJ, vocals). In-universe, the band is represented by Rei Wakana (Raychell), Rokka Asahi (Kohara), Chiyu Tamade (Tsumugi), Masuki Satō (Natsume), and Reona Nyūbara (Kurachi).

Of the nine bands in BanG Dream!, Raise A Suilen is one of six whose members perform their own music. The group has produced eleven singles, a mini-album and their first album was released on August 19, 2020.

History

Raise A Suilen started as a backup band that performed music for the in-universe bands whose members are unable to play their own instruments. In a 2018 interview with Real Sound, franchise creator and Bushiroad head Takaaki Kidani explained he was reluctant to hire a male backup band for an all-female franchise, prompting the group's formation. Kidani envisioned the band as a female version of One Ok Rock and provided them with more freedom in playing music for non-Bushiroad properties than fellow BanG Dream! groups Poppin'Party and Roselia.{{cite interview|last=Kidani|first=Takaaki|subject-link=Takaaki Kidani|interviewer-last=Sunaga|interviewer-first=Kenji|url=https://realsound.jp/2018/11/post-268336.html|title=ブシロード 木谷高明が語る、『バンドリ!』プロジェクトの軌跡と未来 「何十年も続く作品にしたい」|publisher=Real Sound|date=November 6, 2018|access-date=March 14, 2020|language=Japanese|trans-title=Bushiroad's Takaaki Kitani talks about BanG Dream!'s project trajectory and future: "I want to make a work that will last for decades"}}

The group debuted with Raychell, Natsume, Kurachi, and Poppin'Party guitarist Sae Ōtsuka in the Garupa Live and Garupa Party! at Tokyo Big Sight on January 13–14, 2018, where they filled the instrumentals for Afterglow, Hello, Happy World!, and Pastel Palettes.{{cite web|url=https://en.bang-dream.com/artists/raise-a-suilen/|title=RAISE A SUILEN|work=BanG Dream!|access-date=June 27, 2020}} The band was formally announced as a standalone unit during the event's second day;{{cite web|last=Kurachi|first=Reo|url=https://lineblog.me/kurachi_reo/archives/2007868.html|title=「ガルパライブ&ガルパーティ!in東京」2日目|publisher=Line Blog|date=January 14, 2018|access-date=June 27, 2020|language=Japanese|trans-title="Garupa Live & Garupa Party! in Tokyo" Day 2}}{{cite news|url=https://bushiroad.com/news/2018/695|title=『ガルパライブ&ガルパーティ!in東京』へのご来場、ありがとうございました!2日間での総来場者数はなんと18,452名!アフターレポートを掲載!|work=Bushiroad|date=January 15, 2018|access-date=May 28, 2020|language=Japanese|trans-title="Garupa Live & Garupa Party!
