These include the garden plants Atractocarpus chartaceus and A. fitzalanii.
Carl Linnaeus retained the name Randia, applied by Houston to commemorate Isaac Rand.{{cite DNB|wstitle=Rand, Isaac|last=Boulger|first=George Simonds|authorlink=George Simonds Boulger|volume=47}}
Species of this genus are generally dioecious, with separate male and female plants, although exceptions exist. They are trees, shrubs, and lianas, and may be deciduous or evergreen.{{cite journal|doi=10.2307/3393100|jstor=3393100|title=Three New South American Species of Randia (Rubiaceae, Gardenieae)|last1=Gustafsson|first1=Claes G.
