Design and development

The 2XS features a strut-braced biplane layout, a two-seats-in-tandem enclosed cockpit under a bubble canopy, fixed conventional landing gear and a single engine in tractor configuration. The cockpit is {{convert|24|in|cm|0|abbr=on}} wide

The aircraft is made from mixed construction, using welded steel tubing, aluminum and wood, with its flying surfaces covered in doped aircraft fabric. Its {{convert|19.1|ft|m|1|abbr=on}} span wing has an area of {{convert|119.4|sqft|m2|abbr=on}}. The aircraft's recommended engine power range is {{convert|260|to|400|hp|kW|0|abbr=on}} and standard engines used include the {{convert|280|hp|kW|0|abbr=on}} Lycoming IO-540 four-stroke powerplant. The 2XS has a roll rate of 330 degrees/second. Construction time from the supplied kit is estimated as 2000 hours.{{cite web|url = http://www.ravenaircraft.com/product_aircraft_2XS.html|title = Raven 2XS Unlimited Aerobatic Aircraft|accessdate = 17 November 2012|last = Raven Aircraft|year = 2011|url-status = dead|archiveurl = https://web.archive.org/web/20130207122258/http://www.ravenaircraft.com/product_aircraft_2XS.html|archivedate = 7 February 2013}}
