Education
Gargesh attended Delhi University, where he obtained a BA in English (1970), an MA in English (1972), a Post MA Diploma in Linguistics (1976), an M.Litt. in Linguistics (1978), and a PhD in linguistics (1989).
Career
Gargesh began his career in 1986 as a lecturer of linguistics at the University of Delhi. From 1987 to 1997, he was an associate professor in the department, and in 1997 became a full professor. He continued to teach linguistics at Delhi University until 2014. He has been a visiting professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (Seoul), Aligarh Muslim University (Aligarh), and Jawaharlal Nehru University (Delhi).
Since 2019, he has served as Head of the Department of English at Samarkand State University.
