Real World Records is a British record label specializing in world music. It was founded in 1989 by English musician Peter Gabriel and original members of WOMAD.{{cite interview |last=Jones |first=Amanda |interviewer=Nenad Georgievski |title=Real World Records: Passion And Authenticity Are Fundamental |url=https://www.allaboutjazz.com/passion-and-authenticity-are-fundamental-for-real-world-records-amanda-jones-by-nenad-georgievski.php?page=1 |work=All About Jazz |publisher=Michael Ricci |location=Philadelphia |date=8 February 2015 |access-date=20 January 2019}} A majority of the works released on Real World Records feature music recorded at Real World Studios, in Box, Wiltshire, England.
History
The goal of its founding in 1989 was to give talented musicians from around the world access to state-of-the-art recording facilities and audiences beyond their geographic region. The musical relationships formed at WOMAD festivals were also intended to lead to new music recordings. As a result, the music label is known for bringing together musicians who share a common interest in music in general. New recording methods and new meeting places are created.{{cite web |url= https://realworldrecords.com/about/ |title= Real World Records – About |website= realworldrecords.com |access-date=2023-03-24}}
In 1999, the label had sold over 3 million records worldwide and released 90 albums.{{cite interview |last=Gabriel |first=Peter |subject-link=Peter Gabriel |interviewer=Melinda Newman |title=The Real World of Peter Gabriel |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=mggEAAAAMBAJ |magazine=Billboard |publisher=BPI Communications |location=New York |date=14 August 1999 |page=40 |access-date=17 November 2018 |issn=0006-2510}} In 2015, it had reached the mark of over 200 albums.

Many of the released recordings continue to be made at Real World Studios, also founded in 1989, whose facilities support the goals of Real World Records.
In 2011, EMI Music Publishing renewed the distribution deal for the Real World catalogue outside of the United Kingdom, thereby also covering the United States for the first time.{{cite web |url=https://archive.completemusicupdate.com/article/emi-renews-and-extends-deal-with-peter-gabriel/ |title=EMI renews and extends deal with Peter Gabriel |author=CMU Editorial |date=4 November 2011 |website=Complete Music Update |publisher=UnLimited Media |access-date=16 December 2023}}
