When rhythmic gymnastics was officially added as an Olympic sport in 1984, athletes from the USSR and Bulgaria were considered to be the medal favorites, but the Soviet-led boycott of the 1984 Summer Olympics meant the top competitors were absent. Weber went on to win the bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics behind Romanian silver medalist Doina Stăiculescu.{{Cite web |title=Regina Weber Bio, Stats, and Results |url=https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/we/regina-weber-1.html |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200418021316/https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/we/regina-weber-1.html |archive-date=2020-04-18 |access-date=2025-06-24 |website=Olympics at Sports-Reference.com |language=en}} This was the only Olympic medal won by a German gymnast until Darja Varfolomeev won gold at the 2024 Summer Olympics four decades later.{{Cite web |date=2024-08-10 |title=Records made in the Paris 2024 Rhythmic Gymnastics competition |url=https://live.gymnastics.sport/news_display.php?idevent=17041&urlnews=4263745&keyword= |access-date=2025-06-24 |website=International Gymnastics Federation}} She finished her 1984 season by competing at the European Championships in November, where she placed 11th in the all-around and qualified for the ball and clubs finals.
