Research Organization Registry (ROR) is a community-led dataset that aims to provide a persistent identifier for every research organization in the world.{{cite web |last1=Meadows |first1=Alice |title=Are You Ready to ROR? An Inside Look at this New Organization Identifier Registry |url=https://scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/2019/12/04/are-you-ready-to-ror-an-inside-look-at-this-new-organization-identifier-registry/ |website=The Scholarly Kitchen |publisher=Society for Scholarly Publishing |date=4 December 2019 |access-date=17 September 2021}} It complements other commonly used identifiers such as ORCID for researchers and DOI for research output.

Initially, the registry was seeded by the data from Global Research Identifier Database (GRID). In 2021 it was announced that ROR will take over the role of the leading open organization identifier from GRID.{{cite web |last1=Kundu |first1=Suze |title=GRID passes the torch to ROR |website=Digital Science |url=https://www.digital-science.com/press-release/grid-passes-torch-to-ror/ |date=12 July 2021 |access-date=17 September 2021}} ROR's first release after separating from GRID was published in March 2022.{{cite web |last1=Gould |first1=Maria |title=ROR Release v1.0 |url=https://github.com/ror-community/ror-updates/releases/tag/v1.0 |website=GitHub |access-date=7 September 2022}}

The data can be accessed via the official website, an open API, or as a downloadable data dump.{{cite web |title=Facts |url=https://ror.org/facts/ |website=Research Organization Registry |access-date=17 September 2021}} All ROR IDs and metadata are provided under the CC0 license.
