A discovery at Riversleigh was published as another new species in 2018, Rhizophascolonus ngangaba, and further specimens from this area were assigned to R. crowcrofti in the same study.{{cite journal |last1=Brewer |first1=Philippa |last2=Archer |first2=Michael |last3=Hand |first3=Suzanne |last4=Price |first4=Gilbert |author1-link=Philippa Brewer |author2-link=Mike Archer (paleontologist) |author3-link=Suzanne Hand |title=A new species of Miocene wombat (Marsupialia, Vombatiformes) from Riversleigh, Queensland, Australia, and implications for the evolutionary history of the Vombatidae |journal=Palaeontologia Electronica |date=2018 |doi=10.26879/870|doi-access=free |hdl=10141/622528 |hdl-access=free }}
